PPAB CEU Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to provide consistent, clear guidelines that can be applied by the Pet Professional Accreditation Board when determining whether to approve or deny Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for the purposes of obtaining and renewing the PPAB accreditation.

Eligibility and Calculation of CEUs

Educational Events As Approved By PPAB

CEUs may be granted to the following types of educational events herein referred to as "course/seminar":

  • Tele-classes (both live and taped)
  • Online classes
  • Seminars (live, Live Steamed and videotaped)

CEUs will only be granted for courses/seminars whose content covers one (1) or more of the current Core Competencies for which the applicant is seeking CEUs.

Course/seminar content must be based on current, scientifically-valid principles.

The PPAB reserves the right to request additional information regarding the validity of the content. PPAB Committee will have final determination on course/seminar content validity in order to gain PPAB CEUs

Additionally, professional development courses/seminars that fall outside the Core Competencies, but meet all other CEU requirements are allowed.

As an Attendee/Participant

  • Attendees/participants will receive 1 CEU per one hour of in-class lecture time

This type of registration is usually referred to as a “working” spot versus and “auditor” spot
  • Videos that are approved will be granted .5 CEUs  per credit hour

As a Presenter

Presenters can earn 1.5 CEUs per hour of presentation/lecture, when the course/seminar meets the subject matter and scientific qualifications outlined under eligibility.  There is a maximum of 8 hours given for presenter CEUs

Animal training classes regularly offered to the general public as part of a Member’s animal training and/or behavior consulting business do not qualify for CEUs.

  • Members may use no more than 25 CEUs per presenter, per recertification period, unless as part of a multi-speaker course or seminar.
  • Presenters may apply and receive CEUs only once per presentation, per certification period, regardless of the number of times they may present the same presentation within that certification period.

Application and Verification of Attendance for CEU Credit

  • Application for CEUs
  • An individual or organization hosting a course/seminar (“HOST”) may request CEUs prior to the date of the course/seminar. The online form must be completed by the host organization
  • Anyone requesting CEUs must submit their request using the PPAB CEU Application form
  • All ongoing or on-demand courses will be approved for a term of one year, from January 1 to December 31 of the same calendar year, to facilitate re-certification.

Verification of Attendance

  • For course/seminar events, the HOST should maintain an attendance log for all those attending.
  • For webinars, teleclasses, or online courses/seminars (whether live or previously-recorded) attendees should be issued an attendance certificate listing the approved CEU points
  • For webinars, teleclasses or online courses/seminars that are live, HOSTS may take attendance during the first and last fifteen minutes of the course/seminar to verify attendance. HOSTS may also submit alternative methods for verification of attendance to the PPG before the course/seminar.

Appeal for Denied CEUs

In the event that a CEU application is denied, the applicant may appeal to the PPAB Education Committee at CEU@credentialingboard.com. The applicant must submit evidence and information in support of the application in writing to support the appeal.

The PPAB Education Committee may, at its sole discretion, request additional information prior to ruling on the appeal. Approval of an appeal requires a two-thirds majority to pass. If the appeal is not granted by the PPAB Education Committee the applicant may not reapply for CEUs for the same course/seminar unless the course/seminar content has been significantly altered.

Approved Educational providers

  • PPAB will approve institutions, courses, and third party education providers as “approved Educational providers”. These companies will be provided an approved “Educational Provider” badge for their website
